Running out of battery outdoors is what we all dread. Fortunately, alternatives exist to charge your phone even without energy.

When we want to recover the battery on our phone, the only reflex we all have is of course to plug it into an electrical outlet . Nothing too abnormal in that, given that it is the conventional approach that everyone carries out every day in order to be able to use the functionalities of their device as much as possible.
Everyone knows it, smartphone batteries have a tendency to drain faster than you want, and especially to lose efficiency over time . This is why several tools have now been invented in order to overcome this phenomenon, with the very widespread external battery at the top of the list .
How does an external battery work?
In principle, the charging technique deployed by external batteries is not very exceptional, but it was nevertheless necessary to think about it.
All external batteries have a charging cableavailable to them, quite simply because before charging your phone, they themselves must have the battery in stock . In the vast majority of cases, this is done via a USB cable to a micro-USB.
Practical for optimizing your travels, they allow you to charge all types of devices without having to use an electrical outlet . And you know, this configuration happens in many cases, although we do not necessarily always want to accept it.
Why use an external battery?
A trip by car, train, or plane, a long outing, a trip, a mountain expedition... all of these situations have the common point of causing your battery percentage to drop rapidly.
A series of events valid for any of us, requiring the fact of having the possibility of refueling once the audible or visual alert " low battery " intervenes.
Be aware that they exist in any case in different models, with some more compact than others, which are therefore more easily transportable , but whose characteristics are obviously less efficient.
How to choose your external battery?
The very first criterion to take into account is the amplitude of the storage space .
Overall, its value is between 5,000 and 20,000 mAh (milliamps/hour), although some versions can go up to 50,000. To clarify, the concept is simple: the higher this number, the more the capacities battery charging are good.
Concretely, this means that this indicator is used to indicate the number of times you can recharge your smartphone, or even to know if more energy-consuming devices such as a tablet are also suitable for the electrical power of your external battery.
As a general rule, it is better not to bet below 10,000 mAh .
The second aspect not to be overlooked is the transfer speed , namely the time that your external battery will take to charge your devices. If you want to have access to very fast charging of equipment, prefer at least a power of 18w .
In addition to the size, design or shape of the product, also remember to check the connectors , as well as the number of USB ports available to the external battery.
In case you are more fanciful, opt for the choice of this magnetic external battery with an autonomy of 17 hours, compatible with almost all iPhone models , including those of the 12 and 13 series . Thanks to its integrated foldable kickstand, your smartphone is perfectly balanced, while offering a very pleasant viewing angle .
Despite its small size, this little marvel from Anker has the particularity of having a relatively interesting power of 5,000 mAh, enough to make you happy.
Alternatives to external batteries
- An iWALK mini portable charger
To give you the most representative idea possible, the size of the iWalk mini-charger is comparable to that of a lipstick. Take this information as you wish, but the fact remains that these obviously practical gadgets are becoming a real fad.
With these two versions for the Samsung and iPhone brands, join the iWalker community.
- solar powered chargers
The solar charger is a device made up of small photovoltaic solar panels and a battery. The sun's rays are collected and then transformed into electricity afterwards. This solar energy is therefore accumulated in a battery, which is most of the time attached to the device.
- The induction charger
Some may not be aware yet, but charging your phone wirelessly is now a reality, thanks to electromagnetic induction .
To simplify the explanation, let's use simple words: within the charging station, the electric current present in a coil generates a magnetic field . The latter produces a voltage in a second coil, located in the device itself, which then makes possible the flow of current.
Electrical energy is thus transferred from one object to another, as is the case with this fast wireless charger from the Tozo brand , with an unbeatable thickness.
Remember to check the compatibility of all the devices mentioned above, since some are not suitable for example for versions that have become obsolete . For others, they have the specificity of only being effective with a single specific brand, which is far from being the case for all models.
Why do all the chargers I buy for my phone break the same way? I'm very careful, but eventually the phone only charges when plugged in at a very specific angle, and soon after that won't work at all until I buy a new one.
Why do we use 60hz electrical frequency?
Jeanpy Seng
Systems and Network Administrator ( 2020 – present ) Updated 26 Sep.
Electricity is not the same all over the world. The frequency of the current and its voltage vary from one country to another, even if the 220 volt and the 50 hertz are largely in the majority.
This map indicates for each country, the voltage and frequency of the current distributed by the public network:
Example: In Congo-Kinshasa, as in China, the current distributed is 220 volts, 50 Hertz. In Congo-Brazzaville, the frequency is the same but the voltage is higher with 230V as in India or Europe. In Brazil, the frequency is 60Hz but several voltages exist: 110V as in the United States or Canada or 220V as in Peru. You will need to find out before connecting your devices.
If you are traveling or wish to import or export electrical equipment, you will need to ensure that your devices can operate in the country of destination.
An appliance designed for 220V will not be able to work with 110V (and vice versa) unless you use a transformer. On the contrary, a difference of plus or minus 10 volts will generally have no consequence (but if in doubt use a voltage regulator).
An electric motor designed for 50Hz will be able to operate with 60Hz but will run faster, and a 60Hz motor will run slower if powered at 50Hz.
Finally, devices using chargers (mobile phone, laptop, etc.) are generally designed to be recharged with all types of current.
Now to answer the question:
Originally, alternating voltage power supply networks also used frequencies other than 50 Hz and 60 Hz. They could be found varying from 16.7 to 133.3 Hz depending on the equipment.
However, it was necessary to standardize all this in order to be able to interconnect the networks and avoid having to use different devices on each of them.
Furthermore, frequencies that were too high proved to be troublesome for the transport of electricity and for the efficiency of asynchronous motors, and the same was true of frequencies that were too low for the dimensioning of transformers. Frequencies around 50-60Hz were therefore favored during standardization, which essentially dates from after the Second World War (in 1918, in London, ten different frequencies were still used!).

Easy. I turn off the phone to conserve its battery. I manage to get to Winchester, New York in America, where IBM had its headquarters in 1969, I turn on the phone and use it to do a few things that a phone can do without an internet connection: use the calculator, play a downloaded video and a few songs, basically show what is possible and sell it for what they are willing to pay. Be realistic, without an internet connection and without a charger , it is useless, but they will buy it to unravel the mysteries of technology it contains. I don't need THAT much money. But it IS a marvel of technology. I would accept 100K francs, which represents an incredible sum in 1969.

(1) Use a high wattage charger . Low-end chargers will often provide the bare minimum of energy as required by the USB standard, i.e. 5 watts, 5 volts, 1 amps. But most smart phones can go higher. As iPhones support up to 20 watts, so technically 4 times faster. (2) Use a charger with a cable. Wireless chargers will charge much more slowly, while a cable conducts energy much better. (3) Close the phone while charging. Ok, let me clarify that the battery of mobile phones never fully discharges. There's always a little juice left on it.
So, you will tell me, then why do they turn off when the battery is too low?
Some phones have a 3 point battery connection. In most cases, the left one is positive, the right one is negative and the middle one is the BSI (IEB - Battery Status Indicator).
When the battery discharges, the BSI sends a message: “Connect your charger!”.
When a battery is completely discharged, it can be damaged, so as a prevention, the BSI turns off the phone before it gets too low.
What can I do if I have 1% left on my phone and I'm stuck?
Open the phone, place a small paper on the BSI pin and replace the battery then turn on the phone. Once you see the logo, quickly remove the paper.
Hop! The phone says 100% (this is the extra charge stored in the battery). Now you can call anyone and ask for help!
PS 1- After the call, promptly remove the battery or your battery may become completely discharged.
2- This tip does not apply to all cases: some phones will not be powered on if they cannot find the BSI line.
3. Do not try if you are not in a serious situation, it may damage your phone as well as your battery.
4. This trick will only work with removable battery and 3 pin battery phones.
You must therefore make sure that it will not be taken away from you.
Because according to ancient laws, if someone else takes your land away from you, you must kill yourself. (because you will be tortured if you don't)
You have an incredible army.
But you see, the border is very very long.
You can't handle the whole border, it's too long!
But you don't have to, just make sure your army is where the invaders are.
Well, how?
Super simple!
Find around 75,000 guys, tell them to pick a buddy, and let them line up along the border.
If they see an invading army coming, they'll pick up a phone (preferably a nokia, less distracting) and call the main army.)
"Hi boss, Timmy speaking"
“Hi Timmy, is there an invasion or did you forget the phone
charger again?”
“There is an invasion this time! I saw about 2000 fast riders coming our way! They look scary!!”
"Really Timmy? The last time you told the army to come over because you were bored. Wait Timmy, why are you gasping? Are you banging Bobby again?"
"No! I'm running! They saw me! 2000 horsemen! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
"Okay Timmy, I believe you, I'm coming here with 10,000 men, bye!"
Boss: "Team! Location C8! Timmy said he saw 2000 riders."
The main army goes to location C8 and saves Timmy and fights off the invaders.
Boom. It is done. Drop the mic.
A perfect system, isn't it?
Oh, smart one, you've spotted a defect!
There is no phone yet!
What are they doing to communicate?
Enter the Great Wall.
See all the little square-shaped buildings on the "big wall"?
Above each of them is a hearth. There's a lot of wood in there. Highly flammable wood.
So when Timmy sees an invasion, he lights the C8 fire.
The nearby guard sees the fire, and lights his fire, C9.
10 didn't see the invasion at all, but he sees a fire so he lights his own. C10
then C11, C12, C13, C14, C14, C15..............................
and so on. until he reaches where the main army is, and they follow the fire, march, march, kill the invaders, save timmy.
It's like a phone game.
The Great Wall is therefore not a real wall by definition, but rather like a walkie-talkie, a communicator.

Increase:
They make wireless chargers with Smart Charge technology. And there are also wireless chargers with 3 induction coils.
Inconvenience :
No possibility to use the phone while charging. And the fact that its chargers lose a lot of energy in the form of heat. It heats up our batteries and ages them faster.

Not necessarily. Try another mains charger .
Because sometimes poorly insulated (cheap) chargers can let through part of the AC voltage/current. As the smartphone sensor is capacitive, it can interfere.
It could also be a fault in the phone.
Eliminate the loader (try several). If the problem persists, the problem is elsewhere and the remaining ones are the phone and possibly the cable. Although I've never had such problems with a cable.

Can we charge a portable electro battery with a charger that delivers less current than the original charger ?

Yes it will just be longer. Provided that the charger debits more than the device consumes. If your charger charges 500mah and your device consumes 550. It won't charge. For my smartphone with screens on when using it, it consumes a peak: But on average 500–700mah depending on the task. Support screens lit with a current of 1.6amp. it charges from: 380–1120mah. If the smartphone is on standby or off, its consumption will be negligible. Some mah at most with a peak around 300 when it wakes up for pushes and other tasks for a few seconds. With a good charger that debits the max that the phone accepts. It takes an average of 4 hours to refuel in normal charge. I never do fast charging. I use a unofficial charger for this reason.

As Thomas Podgorski says , you physically can't electrocute yourself with 5V. However, many people have electrocuted themselves in their bathtubs with a charging phone. So what happened?
Most charging cables aren't very long, and usually there aren't any electrical outlets near bathtubs. So what do we do? Grab an extension cord and plug the charger into it . And where do you put the charger ? Ben, on the edge of the bathtub. A little jerk on the wire, answering a call or a phone that slips from your hands, and that's the tragedy :-(
That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of.
Edit: there is another scenario: as Jacques Dutour notes in a comment in another answer, it is possible to be electrocuted if there is no galvanic isolation between the 240V of the network and the 5V DC output. This can only happen for defective equipment or equipment that does not respect safety standards, see Jacques Verhaeghe 's excellent answer to How to recognize a telephone charger with galvanic isolation?

in Quora in English :What technology-related fact have you discovered by accident that could be a very useful tip to many or most people?
I am quite proud of this discovery. Well, okay…it was just dumb luck…and probably something most tech-savvy people already knew. But if you are not one of these people and you have a smartphone, this trick can be very useful!
I have a very old phone. A Samsung Galaxy 4. Yes, it's not recent. But it meets my needs. I have replaced its battery several times over the years. Over the past few years, loading has taken a long time; half a day or more. I thought it was because it was an old mobile or something, or maybe the batteries were nearly dead. Besides the battery, I also replaced the charging cord several times as they were inexpensive and didn't last very long. This is the cord model I have always used.
It comes in multiple colors and costs less than $6.00. I had to replace it (3 times in the last 2 years) because the wire inside the rubber coating eventually broke, just at the base of the smaller tip. This is where the phone most often plugs in and folds. I had a bright blue, a bright green, and my last was the bright orange (above). I always bought a new one at the CVS drugstore next to my house.
I started using the orange a few weeks ago and had to shake it just to make sure the broken threads were in contact. It was time to change one the last time I went to CVS.
However…a few days ago I was in an auto parts store and saw some charging cords on the counter. They weren't my usual brand and they were on sale at $5.99, in (original price $8.99). Perfect! I grabbed one and threw it on the counter. It's this cord:
When I got home, I plugged in my phone, which was at 28% charge. Hopefully my mobile will be charged tonight.
Half an hour later, I was sitting on my bed when my phone rang. I watched.
The message was:
Full charge. Please unplug the
charger .
WHAT ? In just 30 minutes!
Wow ! Why the hell didn't I know that?! It seems that some cables are made in such a way that their duration is not very long in order to force you to buy new ones regularly. But the gauge of wire in this cord was much thicker and built to last. The result: more electricity can flow through that wire…resulting in radically faster charging! Duh! I should have known… I'm an engineer! In my defense...I'm a mechanical engineer, not electrical...but still.
All these years, I had to come to terms with the fact that charging my mobile took a long time and that I had to regularly replace my cord, because I bought these low-end cords covered with cheap rubber… while I Could have bought a better quality cord, with thicker thread and strong braided nylon... It would have saved me time, money and heartache. Now it's obvious. Now all my charges last well under an hour no matter what state my phone is in. It makes a huge difference!
So…I guess I'm not the only person who doesn't know that. My advice is to buy a quality charging cord! You will thank me!
So… you're welcome!
Just another example of You get what you pay for!

Why charge a mobile phone in Airplane mode recharges it quickly?

This is true for greedy smartphones and which have a weak charger .
Simply that the 3g/4g is energy-intensive. In airplane mode, you cut the signals, 3g/4g, wifi, gsm, (gps?). As a result, all phone activity decreases and therefore allows more current to enter the battery. For decent phone chargers, this is not the case.
My charger , purchased from a good Chinese retailer, outputs 3.3amp max, and my Samsung s9 consumes 1.2amp screens on (to limit heating) and 1.85 screens off.
CHOETECH is an excellent brand and not expensive and has 3 usb ports, gives 3.3 amps at the most. Hardly heats up and makes no noise (whistling). Those that vibrate have poor quality coils that are often poorly fixed inside. I recommend it. On Aliexpress (official seller) about 5 € free shipping. Their cables are also of high quality and are also not expensive.

Before the charger it is the technological support of the smartphone.
A Qc compatible charger and smartphone (quickcharge) charges at 9v and 1.8amp 16.2 watts approximately.
A normal charger under 5v produces for my phone a recharge at 1.82amp so just below 10watt. It can go up to 2.4amps depending on the phone.
5v 2.4amp =15watt.
9v 1.8amp = 16.2 watt.
12v 1.5amp = 18 watt.
The quickcharge 3 can go between 3.2-20v 18watt max
Charging your smartphones quickly produces a battery that heats up and wears out faster.

What are some great ideas that should be implemented everywhere?

If you plug in your phone's charger for 5 seconds, then unplug it, then plug it back in for 5 seconds, then unplug it, and so on 10 times in a row, is it as effective as leaving the charger plugged in for 50 seconds in a row?
Location: Lausanne, VD, Switzerland 2 years
Non.
Do you see the problem?
Today's smartphones adapt the charge to the connected charger and to their own charge level and it takes a few seconds.
So no. And anyway 5 seconds of pause/loading is wasted time not loading even at 100% instantaneous. Compared to 100% of 50 seconds.
With the fast charger that equips many smartphones, a longer delay of 3 to 5 seconds is necessary for the triggering of the fast charge.

A phone that has its screen off will consume energy to perform maintenance operations: synchronization with the cloud, updates, clearing caches, etc. A switched-off phone wastes all of the energy that

Without further details, I see two different cases: * your phone is over 3/5 years old * you are not using a 'fast' charger A cell phone battery has an average lifespan of 3-5 years for approx. 1000 recharge cycles. Your battery may be at the end of its life. It is therefore necessary to replace it. The second hypothesis is that, inadvertently, you are using another charger or another cable, which causes the charge not to take place in fast mode.

4. This trick will only work with removable battery and 3 pin battery phones.

in Quora in English :Has the wall of China really protected the country from invasion?
It's because it's not a wall.
Imagine you are an emperor of ancient China.
You have 3000 wives.
tons of children,
tons of gold,
tons of jade,
everyone bows to you,
and everything you see is yours
for generations and generations to come.

They make wireless chargers with Smart Charge technology. And there are also wireless chargers with 3 induction coils.
Inconvenience :
No possibility to use the phone while charging. And the fact that its chargers lose a lot of energy in the form of heat. It heats up our batteries and ages them faster.

If this one is not in charge there is no danger.
but the charger is "dangerous". Not by the current it normally supplies to charge the phone, but by the leakage current to certain electronic components of it. And this voltage can be much higher than the maximum safety voltage (12V in a submerged environment).

Edit 2: dramatic case
where the charger was on the end of an extension cord.

in Quora in English :What technology-related fact have you discovered by accident that could be a very useful tip to many or most people?
