If you were lucky enough to come across a doctor who had received real medical training in the Wild West, this might not be the end of your worries.

Indeed, even skilled practitioners had very strange ideas about what constituted appropriate treatment. Some bizarre procedures performed by "real" doctors "include bleeding, removing pieces of flesh and wrapping the patient with cotton before setting them on fire. Extreme practices like this would be condemned today, that's for sure.
