Democrats Finally Have Enough Votes to Completely Bypass the Electoral College
Democrats have secured enough state-level victories to potentially bypass the Electoral College through the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Democrats Finally Have Enough Votes to Completely Bypass the Electoral College
The Electoral College might finally be dead. After a massive midterm sweep where Democrats locked down key state governments, the party is finally close to pushing the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact past the 270-vote finish line. Instead of changing the U.S. Constitution—which is basically impossible—this clever trick gets around the system by having states promise their electoral votes directly to whoever wins the actual popular vote nationwide.

How the National Popular Vote Trick Actually Works
Right now, winning the presidency comes down to a tiny handful of swing states. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact changes the whole game. It's a secret-weapon agreement between states: they all promise to give their electoral votes to the candidate who gets the most votes across the entire country, no matter what their individual state voters picked.
There's just one rule—the agreement doesn't turn on until enough states join to hit 222 electoral votes already locked in across 18 states and D.C., meaning they just need a few more states to cross the 270 line.

Which States Are About to Push It Over the Top?
With Democrats taking full control of state legislatures and governor's offices in big swing areas during the midterms, a few key states are prime targets to sign on next:
- Michigan (Big electoral prize with strong Democratic legislative power)
- Wisconsin (Newly flipped political power ready to jump in)
- Pennsylvania (Massive swing state that could lock the whole deal down)
If just a couple of these states pass the law, the compact instantly hits 270 votes and changes presidential elections forever.
