In a surpring floral dress, that Taylor Swift stepped onto the stage of the Staples Center, where the Grammy Awards were held that night. The singer won the trophy for the best album of the year, for folklore.
She becomes, after Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon, the first female artist to win the album of the year trophy three times (she had already received this coveted Grammy for Fearless in 2010 and 1989 in 2016). During her speech, the star thanked his fans.
18:50 - Beyoncé's symbolic victory
That night, Beyoncé was voted best R&B performance for her title Black Parade, released in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the gigantic anti-racist protests of the summer of 2020.
A performance that the Recording Academy, which awards the Grammy Awards, couldn't ignore.
Black Parade has strong words, which at the same time castigate racism, call for mobilization for civil rights and pay tribute to black culture.
18:26 - Kanye West, never where you expect it
Another highlight of this gala evening, that of Kanye West, who won his 22nd Grammy Award, not in the rap category that made him famous, but for his evangelical record Jesus Is King, voted "best music album contemporary Christian "(and yes it is one of the 83 categories of the Grammy Awards ...).
17:59 - A first Grammy for The Strokes
In a rock category where female artists were again heavily represented at the 2021 Grammy Awards, the group The Strokes (finally) managed to win for the best rock album with The New Abnormal, the first Grammy of their however. long career.
17:41 - Billie Eilish wins (again) Grammy for Recording of the Year
Phenomenal Billie Eilish, nominated in four categories at the 2021 Grammy Awards, walked away with two awards: Recording of the Year for Everything I Wanted, for the second year in a row (unheard of since the album Everything I Wanted by U2), that of the best song written for a film for No time to Die, the soundtrack of the next James Bond. What if you invested € 1,000 in Netflix stocks a year ago?
17:04 - Dua Lipa on the Grammys stage
She was one of the big favorites of the evening with six nominations, but only walked away "only" with the Grammy Awards for best pop album: Dua Lipa performed on stage at the Staple Center in Los Angeles, taking over his songs Levitating and Don't Star Now.
16:43 - The coronation of Meghan Thee Stallion
It is another of the queens of these 63rd Grammy Awards: the rapper Meghan Thee Stallion received the prestigious trophy of the "revelation of the year", the first rap artist to triumph in this category since Lauryn Hill in 1999.
This reward only confirms the success of the artist after a year marked by the release of his first studio album Good News, his duet Cardi B on WAP and his hit Savage remixed with Beyoncé. This remix earned both artists the "Best Rap Performance" and "Best Rap Song" awards.
4:02 PM - Taylor Swift's live performance at the Grammy Awards
If the Grammy Awards evening was rich in awards and speeches, it was also in live performance. Among those that received the most comments, that of singer Taylor Swift, who left the ceremony with a new trophy for album of the year for folklore, becoming the first female artist to win three times this award.
Relive her performance:
15:40 - Beyoncé, queen of the Grammy Awards
Who run the world? Girls, could have sang Beyoncé, sacred that night at the 63rd Grammy Awards. Queen B, by winning two trophies, became the most awarded female artist at this ceremony, with twenty-eight victories. "As an artist, I consider it my job, the job of all of us, to be a reflection of our time.
I wanted to support, encourage, celebrate all the queens and black kings who continue to inspire me and to inspire the whole world, "she said, coming to pick up her reward, very moved. Find his acceptance speech below:
15:18 - Which artist has been the most awarded at the Grammy Awards?
If Beyoncé, by winning two trophies at the Grammy Awards, became the most awarded female artist of this ceremony, with twenty-eight victories, she is not yet at the level of the record holder of the ceremony: Georg Solti.
This Hungarian conductor naturalized British born in 1912 and died in 1997 totaled 31 trophies: one for the whole of his career, 6 as a sound engineer and 1 as a soloist for his recordings. In total, Georg Solti has been nominated 74 times.
2:50 pm - The Grammys, "a home concert"
As for a year, almost to the day, ceremonies such as the Grammy Awards comply with health restrictions linked to the coronavirus pandemic. What did not fail to underline Trevor Noah, presenter of the evening, in front of a small parterre of stars, in a tent, distanced and masked.
"I know it's been a long time since you've been able to go to a concert, and neither have I. So tonight we bring the concert to your home," said the emcee.
14:22 - Justin Bieber skips the Grammys
In November 2020, Justin Bieber launched a long tackle at the Grammy Awards and its organizers, explaining on Instagram that he found it "strange" that his record Changes was in the running for the best pop album category, while he describes it himself as an R&B record.
And even if he said he was "honored" to be named anyway, no question for him to make an appearance at Staples Center, preferring to go to a restaurant with his wife Heiley Bieber in Beverly Hills.
