Materials needed: A Chinese chopstick-type chopstick.
Does it work? Yes (thanks to the heat caused by the friction).

If you've seen videos of people opening cans of Coke with a wand and wondering if it really works, the answer is yes! Oh well, and how? It is the heat generated by friction that causes metal to stretch and deform. The pressure inside the can being greater than that of the atmosphere, the lid opens outwards!

This is not the only way to open a can if the tab comes off, for example you can use a spoon or stick to push the tab down. This is not very elegant but you can still enjoy your Coke when the tab comes off!
