Unless you live in a cave, you've probably noticed the invasion of Met Gala 2022 looks on social media and in the press. This event created by the American magazine Vogue in 1948 brings together the crème de la crème of fashion , music and cinema every year. This evening event followed around the world is both a fundraiser (the tickets sell for gold) and the celebration of the opening of an exhibition at the Met's costume department .

What was the theme for the 2022 Met Gala?

After Fashion in Time , Angelic Bodies and China: Through the Looking Glass , the 2022 edition focuses on the history of American fashion with the exhibition In America: Anthology of Fashion . The required dresscode was therefore linked to the history of fashion across the Atlantic. In the corridors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art , the curators of the exhibition have brought together clothing and everyday objects dating back more than 200 years. The guests of the Met Gala were able to prepare the evening by drawing inspiration - in particular - from the most sumptuous period in terms of style: the Gilded Age or "golden period". From the end of the Civil War in 1865 to the beginning of the 20th century, the United States experienced a period of prosperity and economic growth. And this was clearly felt in the fashion sector ! Moreover, Vogue had said it: the evening was mainly inspired by Edith Wharton 's book " The Time of Innocence ", adapted in 1993 by Martin Scorsese . On the program: endless frills, corsets and petticoats, for an evening on the theme " Gilded Glamour ".

Among the celebrities present at the Met Gala , the one who wins the prize for the best dressed star is obviously Blake Lively . True queen of the event, she was this year the co-president with her husband, Ryan Reynolds . For the occasion, she had a custom-made dress made by Atelier Versace , inspired by the Statue of Liberty , offered by France to New York in 1889. Kim Kardashian appeared in the actual dress worn by Marilyn Monroe when the actress sang " Happy Birthday Mr. President " to John Kennedy . Her sister, Kendall Jenner , climbed the steps of the museum in a Prada ensemble complete with a huge Gone with the Wind- worthy. Native American model Quannah Chasinghorse chose to showcase her heritage with a Prabal Gurung dress and traditional Navajo makeup.

Is not Blake Lively who wants! Public expectations of the Met Gala are always high since the event itself is considered THE fashion evening of the year . In addition to having to respect the theme, the stars are expected at the turn and everyone hopes to see more spectacular looks than each other. As always, some celebrities and their stylists miss the point or don't make the effort to wow the public. It happened in 2019 with Karlie Kloss and her somewhat bland dress for the Camp exhibition . Amy Schumer surprised - negatively - with her button-up dress and black sunglasses. More bland, we did not find. In a see-through Moschino gown , Vanessa Hudgens looked more like a sexy boarding school supervisor than a beaming celebrity. As for Camila Cabello in Prabal Gurung , the look is a bit rough! The frills are certainly reminiscent of those of 19th century dresses, but on this straight skirt, the whipped cream melts sadly on her hips.
