The ChatGPT AI has a proven track record of making medical diagnoses. With a few exceptions...

Several patients described their symptoms to the artificial intelligence ChatGPT who made the right diagnosis, unlike their doctors. According to a recent study, ChatGPT issues correct diagnoses in the majority of cases. Even if he sometimes misses himself completely...

It's a story that has captured  the media in recent days, in the United States.

The story  of Alex, a young boy who has been suffering from chronic pain for three years, consulted 17 specialists and increased hospital stays without finding the cause of his pain, reports the media Today.

Tired, his mother typed in great detail the different symptoms and results of her son's examinations in the interface of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence.

"The robot then offered him a diagnosis that no one had thought of: attached spinal cord syndrome, a rare congenital malformation,".

Operated by a very real surgeon, the boy should return to a normal life. His case would not be an exception as ChatGPT seems able to make good medical diagnoses in most cases, reports a Dutch study. Even if he also makes gross mistakes.

97% of good diagnoses proposed

This study still, has its limits because it concerns only a very small sample of cases (30), which were rather simple (patients have only one main complaint).

But its results remain  spectacular. For each patient who entered this emergency department in the Netherlands, ChatGPT was fed based on the patient's history, laboratory tests and doctors' observations. The AI was then asked to issue five possible diagnoses. The right diagnosis was present in 97% of the lists proposed by ChatGPT against "only" 87% in those of practitioners.

On the same subject ⋙ ChatGPT also offers its shrink services, but it's really not a good idea.

⋙ A student asks an AI to make her photo more "professional", she becomes white with blue eyes

But, this AI is not infallible. His explanations were "sometimes medically implausible or inconsistent, which can lead to erroneous information or an incorrect diagnosis," notes the study. Therefore, there is no question of imagining a service where ChatGPT reigns. But rather a service where this AI accompanies doctors by saving them time. Or by repairing their blunders.

"I'm thinking about using ChatGPT to confirm a diagnosis"

This was the case for a Frenchman, Michel Argan. The Daily of the Doctor reports its story: "This 53-year-old man escaped a perforation of the gallbladder and peritonitis, following acute cholecystitis not diagnosed by his treating doctor who had concluded a simple colopathy." In the absence of a diagnosis, this man had listed his syndromes on ChatGPT and shared with his doctor the conclusion of the AI. Neither one nor two, the doctor immediately sent his patient to the emergency room.

Practioners  say they became aware of the possibilities offered by AI: "Of course I blame myself, I lacked vigilance. But it can happen to any colleague who miss a diagnosis.
Luckily, ChatGPT was there! [...] It is true that I am thinking about using ChatGPT to confirm a diagnosis or in certain pathologies where it has become very difficult to get the advice of a specialist." When you know the waiting time to consult a specialist, you understand that the ChatGPT option seduces...

What do you think about YEET users using Chatgpt to answer questions?

I think it is not a good idea for YEET  users to use ChatGPT to answer questions.

About Chatgpt

ChatGPT is a large language model chatbot developed by OpenAI.

It is trained on a massive dataset of text and code, and it can generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way.

However, ChatGPT is not a human being and does not have the same understanding of the world as a human being. This means that it is possible for ChatGPT to generate inaccurate or misleading answers to questions.

Some of the problems with using ChatGPT to answer questions on YEET:

ChatGPT can generate inaccurate or misleading answers.

ChatGPT is trained on a massive dataset of text, but it does not have the same understanding of the world as a human being. This means that it is possible for ChatGPT to generate inaccurate or misleading answers to questions.

ChatGPT can be biased.

ChatGPT is trained on a dataset of text that is created by humans.

This means that ChatGPT can reflect the biases that are present in the dataset.

For example, if the dataset is biased towards a particular point of view, ChatGPT is likely to generate answers that reflect that point of view.

ChatGPT can be used to spam or troll. ChatGPT can be used to generate spam or troll posts on YEET

. This can make it difficult for users to find accurate and reliable information.
If you are looking for accurate and reliable information, it is best to get your answers from human experts or from sources that are known to be reliable.

Can Chatgpt give medical advice based on medical exam data?

No. Chatgpt does not discuss medical issues.
Does ChatGPT pass the US medical licensing exam?

Is it time to Redefine Exams and How fast do we need to do it. What could more complex than a Medical Post graduate exam

Now imagine #ChatGPT which is a large language model developed by #OpenAI that has been evaluated for its performance on the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE). The #usmle consists of three complex exams: Step 1, Step 2CK, and Step 3. #ChatGPT model performed at or near the passing threshold for all three exams (Step 1, Step 2CK, and Step 3) of the USMLE without any specialized training or reinforcement. Additionally, ChatGPT demonstrated a high level of concordance and insight in its explanations. These large language models may have the potential to assist with medical education, and potentially, even clinical decision-making.

We might have to reimagine the exams in future as more and more students will use these models for exam prep as well as assistance in working. Examiners will have to use creative ways to bring about a change in what we are testing the candidate for and what real world skills will be needed in near future.

Can ChatGPT provide personalized health advice based on an individual's medical history and symptoms?

Sure. It will provide as much and as personalized health advice as you want, based on as much individual medical history and symptoms you give it.

The more you give it, the less likely it is to be able to parse it all and be helpful.

The less you give it, the less likely it is to be very personalized.

I’m not saying to not ask—it’s akin to using Google to figure out what might be wrong with you. I am a very strong believer in getting a professional medical diagnosis instead of self-diagnosing—but also, I have self-diagnosed several times in my life, because no doctor could figure out what was wrong. Then once I figured it out, I could find a doctor to work with whatever I found.

Sometimes I’ve been wrong, most times I’ve been right, or close enough that it lead to a professional diagnosis.

Just like doctor Google, never assume ChatGPT is a medical assessment.

It is AI, which entirely lacks human insight. One of the diagnoses I figured out for myself was a parasite. In the medical textbook I was using to figure it out, it listed several signs and symptoms, two of which it said, “95% of people with this parasite have these symptoms,” which were symptoms I did not have.

Turned out I was in the 5% group for two symptoms, which was part of why the doctors didn’t manage to diagnose me for a whole year. But ChatGPT is based on stuff that is all based on what humans have written.

There’s no reason to believe it will be able to catch something the doctors weren’t able to catch. It might! But you’ll have no way to judge besides consulting with a doctor.

So, go ahead and use it if you want, remember that too much input will get you a muddy result and not enough input will get you a result that isn’t personal enough, and you’ll have no way to know where those lines are.

For your entertainment, and for a clear visual example of how off AI can be, I give you a visual I was trying to generate.

A living room with a line made out of masking tape on the rug running in the middle of the room all the way to both sides of the room. Standing in front of the line is a non-binary adult with light brown skin, toes are 12 inches in front of the line. Adult has worried expression.

Window on the wall to the side with summer light coming in and green trees outside
If you look very quickly, this scene might only look uncomfortable. But try looking at the details, and eventually you will see so many impossible, disgusting, or insane parts of the picture, you will likely laugh as hard as I did when I saw it.

Asking ChatGPT for a diagnosis is likely to be in some ways similar to the problems in that AI generated illustration.

Can ChatGPT be used to provide accurate and reliable medical information to patients?
No. Not at all, and not in the near future.

ChatGPT can’t even differentiate between true proven statements and untrue and/or unproven statements — of any kind, much less medical. ChatGPT is a glorified parrot that doesn’t need to be cleaned-up after meals.

Actually… there is evidence that parrots can actually converse (with intent), and not merely repeat words. The same cannot be truthfully said if ChatGPT. It spews everything — garbage, as well as good things.

At least Bard tells you when it doesn’t choose to answer (or is programmed not to answer) certain questions. It doesn’t just spew bullshit. It doesn’t just say nothing at all. It will tell you, if you push it with queries using the correct language, that [it] “can’t answer that right now”. And if you ask it WHY it can’t answer (whatever) — does it not know, or does not wish to say, Bard will tell you either (whatever the truth is). Bard has told me “I can’t answer that because it is under discussion right now and it hasn’t yet been decided”… or “because the potential merging with (another named AI) is still under discussion”.

Besides all of the above major flaws — no AI is going to be useful for providing USEFUL AND RELIABLE information, until it can access your personal medical records… because that’s how it works with medical info, which is specific to particulars of each and every individual case. HIPAA bars that from happening. You, OP, did ask your question using the words useful and reliable medical information, right? That needs an individual educated medical practitioner with real experience to determine and impart. I’m 62 years old, and the rest of my lifespan is approx 10 years (if that). It won’t happen in MY lifetime (circa 2034).
Do we have Chatgpt for medical use?
No. We likely will in some years, but it is too unreliable for that use, except for casual questions.

If you have concerns about your health, it is always recommended to consult a qualified medical professional who can provide an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
What are some of the most difficult ethical dilemmas faced by medical professionals?
How will it impact the use of ChatGPT in writing/doing research and in publishing scholarly manuscripts in science, technology, medical, and also in social science subjects?
ChatGPT has been identified as a disruptive innovation with the potential to revolutionize academia and scholarly publishing.

ChatGPT can automate the preparation of essays and other scholarly manuscripts.

However, the ethical implications of this technology have not yet been fully considered.

There are concerns about the potential for bias in the training data and coding process of AI-driven language models such as GPT-3, which poses a threat to the integrity of science. Additionally, ethical considerations include issues of copyright, citation practices, and the potential impact on the "Matthew Effect" in scholarly publishing.

Ownership of the content generated by the model and the use of third-party content within the generated manuscripts are also major ethical concerns.

Publishers are racing to create policies for ChatGPT.

Some publishers say that an AI’s contribution to writing papers can be acknowledged in sections other than the author list.

Recently, publishers such as Elsevier and Cambridge University Press & Assessment have announced the acceptance of use of ChatGPT in writing research papers but not accepted it as a co-author.

Recognizing ChatGPT as an author will corrupt research processes and bibliometric studies.
