Drones have been around for a long time, but it's only been a few years that their commercial versions have appeared on the market and are on the rise. Photographers have traded in their traditional working tools to gain height and take truly impressive shots.

Using a drone is a great way to explore things from a different perspective, whether you're a pro or a hobbyist, although this hobby comes at a definite cost. Some sell on sites like Amazon for several thousand dollars. As technology in this field is constantly evolving, these pictures are just a glimpse of what one might imagine in the long term.

The humpback whale is one of the most common whales, and it is found in every ocean on the planet. They are easy to spot because their body shape - bumpy heads and long pectoral fins - sets them apart from other whales. Their gestation period is 11 months, and babies (like the one in this photo) stay with their mothers for their entire first year of life.

Rushforth explained on Facebook that the unique red of the edges is due to the oxidation of ferrous minerals in the lava which color the slag. The surrounding basalt is not affected by this oxidation, which creates a stark contrast. Rushforth described the scene as "from another world", especially since it is in a "remote place". This unique coloring is due to five thousand years of mining. The chemicals from this extraction led to acidic mine drainage. If these chemicals are the source of the beautiful colors of Rio Tinto, they are an environmental disaster.
