Travel : Not A Matter Of Money, But A Matter Of Courage
This is actually true. I left home in my 20’s with barely anything in my bank account and got travel the world. How?
By joining the Air Force. It was the best decision I ever made. There are many other ways.
I know friends who went to teach English in China or other foreign countries within barely enough to get there, and the job was enough to pay for room and board and sustain their lifestyles there.
There are charity organizations, non profits, and sometimes educational opportunities as well. The only thing really stopping anyone is the lack of desire to do so, lack of imagination, or fear.
I wish every student was forced to live abroad for a while as a foreign exchange student, or even better, in some (unlikely) future utopia, for every adult to be required to live abroad for a while too.
It is really the only way to gain real perspective, and to end division and prejudice.
Once you are away from your people and become the minority, the connections you form with foreigners (when you are the foreigner) who will help you and become like your surrogate family would teach everyone how to be a lot less prejudiced and get rid of the idea that we are all too different to work together.
If you can actually become a true “citizen of the world”, it’s impossible to ever be prejudiced again and so much easier to be accepting of all humans on earth, even the ones we cannot understand.
Even those we deem “enemies”, such as radical extremists or dictators. I learned that you do not have to hate your enemy, and it’s never wrong to try to see their points of view, but can still stand for what you believe even if it’s against what they believe.
Also, you will find that many foreigners who look nothing like you and maybe even speak a different language share the same values and beliefs as you, and any differences you saw before between races and cultures were always superficial and surface deep.
People these days can feel like their neighbors are completely different and alien to them.
That would end after living thousands of miles outside your comfort zone for a while because you’d be forced to learn a new culture, maybe a new language, make unlikely connections, and be more accepting after you yourself are accepted by those you’d never meet in your lifetime otherwise.

If you look for places to "travel" closer to home, maybe. We love to travel. When I was single, or just me and my spouse, we spent our vacations exploring foreign lands, were able to afford plane tickets and hotel rooms, able to eat out for all our meals, etc. Now that we are a family of five, we have been enjoying exploring things in our own home state. Many interesting sites are a daytrip away, or maybe a one night overnight stay. If you can spring for a kitchenette, you don't spend as much on food, etc.

I'm Vietnamese, was born in France and now live in Florida. My parents were refuges during the Vietnam war and have travelled across Asia and Europe- not for pleasure, but out of necessity to find a place to call home. Now I'm very happy to set down roots and have very little desire to travel. However, not many people have experienced my situation. Traveling does give a lot of perspective. The perspective that I've received is that there's no place like home!

We saved five years to travel to New Zealand. The cost of the 14 hour flight was not cheap for two people! Our hotels, rental car, tours - everything was paid for before we left so we didn't come back to a bunch of big travel bills and we had cash in hand for food and any other expenditures. If you are willing to save for a goal, you can make it happen.

To be fair, just an example: not smoking pays you a flight and not being at home and not going to work saves money on electricity and gas, enough to pay a hotel. Then you can also sell things you don't use or quite your bad job and leave with extra pay. So sometimes yes.

In the early 1950s, while reading a discarded copy of the August 1949 edition of National Geographic magazine, Gatewood found an article about the Appalachian Trail (A.T.). The description and photographs captivated her and made it sound like something she could do. All that was needed was "normal good health" and "no special skill or training." She set out in July 1954 at the age of 66 to hike south from Mount Katahdin in Maine. After a few days, she got lost, broke her glasses, and ran out of food. The rangers who found her convinced her to return home, but she decided not to tell anyone about her failure.
The following year, at the age of 67, Gatewood told her grown children that she was going for a walk. They did not ask where or for how long, as they knew she was resilient and would take care of herself. This time, she started earlier in the year and walked north from Mount Oglethorpe in Georgia beginning on May 3, 1955, and ending 146 days later on September 25 at Mount Katahdin. At the top of Baxter Peak, she signed the register, sang the first verse of the song "America the Beautiful" and spoke out loud, "I did it. I said I'd do it and I've done it.
Because the National Geographic magazine article had given her the impression of easy walks and clean cabins at the end of each day's expedition, she took little in the way of outdoor gear – no tent or sleeping bag, just a shower curtain to keep the rain off. She wore canvas Keds shoes on her misshapen feet and carried a small notebook, some clothes and food in a homemade denim bag slung over one shoulder. When she couldn't find shelter, she slept on piles of leaves. On cold nights, she heated large flat stones to use as a warm bed. When she ran out of food, she ate berries and other edible forest plants she recognized.

🚨 'I'm afraid that's no longer my problem, ma'am': Movers maliciously comply with rich Karen's impossible delivery demands ➡ bit.ly/3mpM4DL 🚨
May be an image of text that says 'About 30 or so years ago, I dropped out of high school. My first job was as a truck jockey for a bloke who owned his own removal truck, and had a delivery contract with a oca chain of furniture stores. The work was hard, and days were usually pretty long (I have an old payslip somewhere for an 84 hour week), but I was young, fit and healthy, and the work saved me from needing a gym membership. Plus the cash was really good for a 16yo kid.'
