When Elvis met Priscilla in 1959 in Germany, he didn't know that she was only 14 years old. They waited until May 1, 1967 to get married in Las Vegas.

On May 1, 1967, eight years after their meeting, Elvis and Priscilla decided to formalize their union.And when a star of Elvis Presley's dimension gets married, it requires some precautions.

The ceremony takes place in Las Vegas and to avoid the riot, Elvis decides to keep the information secret and blur the tracks. Joe Esposito, Elvis' trusted man, had the enviable honor of being Elvis' wedding witness and he tells us about this very special day.

I was very honored that Elvis asked me to be one of his witnesses, with Marty Lacker. With Colonel Parker, family and friends were brought back to Palm Springs, California, where Elvis had a house. So the reporters all went there and people were walking around the house wondering what was going to happen. Late at night, we left discreetly for the airport. We took Frank Sinatra's jet and arrived in Las Vegas. We rested a little and the next day, we prepared for the ceremony. Some people were very angry at not being able to attend the ceremony when they had been invited.

And there was something to be angry because, of all the guests who had made the trip, only 14 people met in the small room of the Aladdin Hotel to attend the event. A few minutes later, everyone gathered in a large living room with all the guests this time. Elvis seemed very happy to have married this young girl he had known when she was only 14 years old.

Once married, Elvis was not nervous at all. Priscilla was much more tense than him. He felt good, he even did interviews with some journalists. He is very smiling, she is very beautiful. They were a beautiful couple. Then we left for Palm Springs. We had a big wedding meal and a beautiful party. We stayed there for a while, before returning to Memphis.

Seeing Priscilla stressed but radiant, many people said that she looked incredibly like Gladys, Elvis' mother who disappeared in 1958, as Joe Esposito explains.

He loved brunettes, as was his mother, with beautiful eyes. Prisicilla reminded him of his mother. He wanted someone who was close to him, who could take care of the children, who was a housewife. That's why he wanted someone young. But he didn't know she was 14 years old when he met her. She was older.

Elvis and Priscilla Presley remained united until October 1973, the date of a divorce that according to many witnesses I meet in Memphis will precipitate the King into drug abuse and decay.
