YEET MAGAZINE - Elon Musk clarified that this robot will be able to fix bolts on cars using an adjustable wrench or to collect purchases in stores.

At an event dedicated to artificial intelligence, Elon Musk presented the Tesla Bot project. A robot designed to replace humans in jobs considered hazardous or repetitive.

It's  the  latest Elon Musk's project. A metallic humanoid robot, capable of performing repetitive tasks and designed using the same technology as the company's semi-autonomous vehicles.

Called "Tesla Bot", it will have five fingers on its hands, a black and white androgynous silhouette. The launch of a first prototype will probably take place next year, assures the boss of Tesla.Because for the time being, only synthetic images have been unveiled.

A "friendly" robot of nearly 1.70 m

It was on the occasion of Tesla Artificial Intelligence Day that Elon Musk unveiled this new project. If we stick to the details given by the boss of Tesla, this robot will measure 1.73 meters for 56.7 kilograms.

Equipped with a screen on the front of his head, he can carry 20 kg, even lift a load of 68 kg in some cases or hold 4.5 kg at arm's length. And will move at a maximum speed of 8 km / h. In comparison, a human being walks at a speed of between 4 and 6 km / h and can run at a maximum speed of 44 km / h. This will allow, in the event of a problem, to "escape him by running faster than him a priori", underlined with humor Elon Musk, who had explained shortly before that this robot would be "friendly".

Evoking its use, Elon Musk specified that this robot will be able to fix bolts on cars using an adjustable wrench or even to recover purchases in stores.

Reuse components of autonomous vehicles

On the technology side, and to produce this robot, some of the components currently used in cars produced by Tesla will be used. "Tesla is certainly the most important robotics company in the world, because cars are semi-conscious robots on wheels, with an on-board computer dedicated to autonomous driving," said Elon Musk.

Elon Musk, the entrepreneur who wants to change the world

The "Tesla Bot" should therefore include many components already present on Tesla cars. These include the cameras and sensors that allow the fully autonomous driving of a vehicle and the Autopilot computer, which should be installed in the robot's head. Even though this system is currently at the center of controversy and is the subject of a recent investigation after a series of accidents .

Elon Musk is not the first

It remains to be seen whether his know-how in the autonomous car will be an asset for Elon Musk. Because even if he believes that "it makes sense to give all this a humanoid form", he is not the first to make this choice. Like Pepper, launched in the mid-2010s by SoftBank, or even Atlas, from Boston Dynamics.

Atlas' prowess

The latter now manages to link figures inspired by human movements. And to keep your balance in most situations.
